Where has the time gone? - Carolyn Martens

Wow!  I can’t believe it.  My youngest child will be graduating from high school next week.  Where does the time go?  I still say that I’m not old enough to have both my children graduated from high school, and I am going to stick with that story.

While it is an exciting time, it’s also a time for me to look back and reflect on the last 20 years of my life.  Did my husband and I do everything we could in raising our children?  Do they have a strong, firm foundation of their faith in God?  Are they ready to face what’s out for them in the world?  Knowing that common sense is in my opinion the oxy moron of the century, did I help them establish a good sense of right and wrong?

With God’s help, from the time our children were born we raised our children for Him.  From taking them to Sunday School to doing family devotions, from memorizing the bible together to trying to live our lives as examples.  Okay, there were and still are many times that my life is not the example it should be, but I pray that my children can learn from that as well.

Proverbs 20:7 says, “God-loyal people, living honest lives, make it much easier for their children.” (Message)  D.L. Moody is quoted to say, “A holy life will make the deepest impression.  Lighthouses blow no horns; they just shine.”  Doesn’t that just say it all?  God asks us to teach our children and lead by example.

As a mom, I have the ability to demonstrate to my children the riches and blessings that can be found in following Christ.  Wow!  What an honour.  What a challenge.  I am so thankful to God that He has been with me every step of the way so far, and that He will never stop being there right by my side.
