Carolyn (75x75)Proverbs 22:6
Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it.

One of the things my husband and I did when our children were growing up was to have dinner together almost every night.  Unfortunately “Family Supper Time” is something that is disappearing from most homes today.

My dad and I have interesting talks sometimes early Sunday mornings.  I like to arrive at my office around 4am to pray and prepare my heart for preaching.  My dad is an early riser, so sometimes I’ll give him a call and talk about what God has laid on my heart to preach that day.  We’ve had some real cool talks over the years.

A few years ago I called him on Father’s Day.  He told me a story of how he prays for my sister and I.  He said that looking back he can’t help but see that he’s made some mistakes as a dad and done less right than he wishes he would have.

How Are You? How Are You Really? - Carolyn Martens

Yesterday someone asked me how I was doing.  Usually when people ask how we are doing, we all tend to have that “pat” answer.  How many of us actually answer that question truthfully?  Interestingly enough that saying things are fine when they really are not is quite a normal thing to do.  We tend to give answers such as:
I am doing great.
Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies.
Busy as ever.
I am doing well.
I’m fine, how are you?

I tried to give one of my normal “pat” answers, but they wouldn’t give up.  They weren’t buying into the answer or letting me get away with it.  How was I really doing?  I guess when I really looked at myself; I realized that I was tired.

Many people over the years have tried to predict the future. Remember the Jamaican psychic, Cleo?  She was rich because everyone asked her to predict their future.  As it turns out, she ended up in jail because they proved her to be a fraud.  I guess she didn’t see that in her future.
