Ever since I can remember, my family and I attended church. I accepted Christ in to my life when I was two. As a child, I followed my parents faith: Christianity. I went to Sunday school, had some fun, and made a few friends along the way. When I was 10, I decided I wanted to live my life for Christ and make it publicly known to the world that I loved God, so I decided to get baptized.
As I grew up a little more, I fell away from God. I didn’t ask for his guidance in my life and I also didn’t have a growing relationship with Christ. I tried to do everything on my own. For strength and encouragement I leaned on friends. Only when it was convenient to me would I pray and when I prayed I only asked for things.
When I was in grade 8, God gave me a wake up call. My friend from childhood died in a car accident over night. One of the pastors in our Church passed away. And my mother got very ill and almost died. That is when I realized I needed God in my life. I couldn’t do it alone anymore. It was then that I cried out to God for help.
Soon after that, I went to a big Youth rally in town called “Tremor". The Youth pastor asked if any one wanted to go to the front and re-dedicate their lives to Christ. I knew I wanted to, so, nervously, I went to the front. All I did was pray to God and tell Him I wanted Him to be the ruler of my life and that I was sorry that I had tried to do it on my own. I know God heard me that day. I was encouraged to read my Bible every day and to have daily conversations with God through prayer.
Through that experience, and many going on today, God has really taught me to trust in Him. One verse in the Bible that speaks to me is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5&6).
Jesus Christ has changed my life in so many ways. He is here in every area of my life. I trust him with everything. I’m still not perfect, but now I know that I don’t have to be. God truly loves me for me, mistakes and all. Jesus Christ is the most important relationship I have. When I truly put Him as number one in my life, everything else falls into place. He is my refuge and strength.
