It’s hard for me to believe, but my son will be getting married in 10 days.  I know what those of you who know me are thinking.  I am not old enough to have a child getting married.  As parents we have been praying for our children’s spouses since they were young and it’s exciting to watch your child find someone they love and want to spend the rest of their life with.

When I think back to my wedding day, it really seems like just yesterday.  But actually, it was almost 28 years ago.  My husband and I have had a wonderful life together and look forward to many more years together, but marriage does not always come easily.

In marriage you have to work together and work hard to develop a love that lasts.  Part of working towards a lasting love is to show each other love by what you do.  Never let your love die or fade into the background of good intentions and spoken words.  Everyday do something to show that you love each other.  It may be just a kiss, a hug, a small gift or a kind word, but do it, and do it daily, and know that your love will continue to grow for the rest of your lives.  Marriage is spending time praying together, living your lives for God together, and trusting Him when tough times come.

1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly.  And the best of the three is love.”  (Message)
Real love, the love that lasts, the love that keeps marriages together, works only if those who profess it work as well.  The romantic love that brings people together, and begins your marriage is wonderful, but it will not keep you together.  The love that keeps marriages together takes a lot of effort from both husband and wife.  We need to keep ourselves from falling into the temptation to think otherwise.

Always remember that love for each other is a reflection of God’s love for us.  The love that anyone has for each other comes from God first, and the commitment made in marriage is not just between husband and wife.  The vows include God, and it is God who always be there to help you to be faithful and continue to grow in love with each other.

So Bryce and Rosanna – God bless you as you get married next week.  We love you and will pray that God will keep your marriage strong and full of love, and that He will be the center of your lives together.
