How Are You? How Are You Really? - Carolyn Martens

Carolyn (75x75)
Yesterday someone asked me how I was doing.  Usually when people ask how we are doing, we all tend to have that “pat” answer.  How many of us actually answer that question truthfully?  Interestingly enough that saying things are fine when they really are not is quite a normal thing to do.  We tend to give answers such as:
I am doing great.
Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies.
Busy as ever.
I am doing well.
I’m fine, how are you?

I tried to give one of my normal “pat” answers, but they wouldn’t give up.  They weren’t buying into the answer or letting me get away with it.  How was I really doing?  I guess when I really looked at myself; I realized that I was tired.

We all get tired from time to time.  Whether it is from our jobs, our children, caring for our aging parents, sick family members or just life, we all will go through those tired times.  It is in times like this when I go back to Isaiah 40:28-31.
"28 Don't you know who made everything?
      Haven't you heard about him?
The Lord is the God who lives forever.
      He created everything on earth.
He won't become worn out or get tired.
No one will ever know how great his understanding is.
29 He gives strength to those who are tired.
He gives power to those who are weak.
30 Even young people become worn out and get tired.
Even the best of them trip and fall.
31 But those who trust in the Lord
      will receive new strength.
They will fly as high as eagles.
They will run and not get tired.
They will walk and not grow weak."

You would think that it would not take that “tired” feeling to go back to these verses, but I guess it’s when I need it the most, that God brings it back to me.  Even the strongest people get tired at times, but God’s power and strength are always there.  He is never too busy to help and listen.  He is a constant source of strength.

So, when we are tired, when we feel life crushing us, and maybe we are even at that place where we feel we can’t go another step, remember that God is there to renew our strength.  What a blessing to know that God gives me the power I need when I feel weak and the strength to get through it!

Thank you, I needed to be reminded that God will give me strength when I'm tired.
