Hi, I'm Steve Henry. I've been a part of SouthSide Church for a few years now. After trying a number of "other" options in life, I gave my life to Jesus and have never been the same since. Now God has given me the opportunity to reach others through a ministry that helped me: Teen Challenge.
The Teen Challenge program is a tough and humbling program, BUT IT WORKS! It's a program that's designed to help people who struggle with drug and alcohol addictions.
After going through the program myself, I have had the awesome opportunity to work with others from Teen Challenge Centers throughout Canada. I was also blessed to be able to help establish the Teen Challenge Center in British Columbia.
In April 2003 the door of opportunity was open to travel to Trinidad, in the West Indies, to help the hurting men find the hope that I have found in Jesus Christ through the ministry of Teen Challenge. I have been helping to develop and stabilize the program and to train Nationals to run a structured Teen Challenge Program. Alcohol (rum) and Drugs (pot & cocaine) are really bad on the little Island.
Things have been going very well here. The Program is running smoothly, there is a good attitude in the house. The people down here are so carefree and friendly. They are open to receive the Gospel. We can actually learn from the Trini people. You can still say the ‘J’ & ‘G’ (Jesus, God) word in the schools. We took full advantage of that by going into the schools and teaching the young men character development.
It has been an awesome life altering experience and a blessing to serve here as an ambassador to the soon coming King of Kings. I have met many new and very special friends who have left an eternal impression in my heart and for that I am grateful.
Time after time I see how God has led each brushstroke in my life through the good times and the bad. A few times I thought that I may not fit into this culture, but I see His comforting hand guide, teach and lead me and make each aspect of the Ministry actually work! At those times I end up sensing a soft whisper in my ear saying, "Trust Me Steve... Trust Me." And this is what its all about, isn't it? Placing our confidence and our hope & trust in Him because He is able, I am not! I am learning, I assure you!
You see, God is the only Way to complete happiness. By giving my life over to Him and by helping others, I’ve learned the true purpose and meaning of my life. God is in control of my life and I’m quite comfortable with that.
