A while ago I was standing in line to pay for a few things that I picked up at a local store. While waiting for my turn to pay I noticed a small child standing in line behind me. She was adorable. Playing shy behind her mother’s skirt she peeked out and smiled. The clerk noticed her and commented on her beautiful big brown eyes. She looked at the child and asked, “Where did you get those big brown eyes?” I’m sure the clerk was thinking that the little girl would say “From my dad”, (since mom’s eyes were blue) but without a moments hesitation the small child looked at the woman and said, “From Jesus!” I loved her answer because isn’t that just like a child? So full of faith and purity. She knew exactly where she got those big brown eyes and didn’t have to think a moment before answering. “I got them from Jesus.”
Children at this age say what comes to their mind. They are so straightforward. Not self conscience or worried about what everyone else is doing or what others may think.
Shouldn’t we all share about Jesus that innocently and quickly? Then why don’t we? Do we ask too many questions? Is it really that complicated to share about Jesus and what he has done in our lives? What is stopping us?
I think back to this little 5 year old child often. She has been coming back to my mind over and over. Her joy in knowing just who she is and where she came from with a willing heart to share will stay with me for a long while. A 5 year old little girl so full of innocence and love has much to teach. I just need to watch and learn.
