My  name is Leanna, and I am currently working in New York City. I am a full time staff member with Metro Ministries. Metro has America's largest Sunday School program, averaging approximately 20,000 kids in attendance each week. The vision for our ministry is "to see leaders, teachers, and pastors raised up out of the streets of the cities worldwide. Then, they in turn will minister to the next generation."

 

There are many ways we achieve this vision. Five days a week we have custom-made trucks that we take into the roughest areas of New York City. We go into housing projects and city parks and turn our trucks into platforms to preach the gospel. The side of the truck comes down, and from that stage, we have one hour programs with the kids as they are coming out of school. We play games, sing songs, and every week they learn a character building lesson with the foundation of biblical principles.

 

Saturdays are our biggest days. While most people are sleeping in and have the day off of work, we are driving school buses through a 5 mile area around our church, picking up kids and bringing them to Sunday School. On Saturdays we have three sessions of Sunday School running consecutively, with approximately 1200 kids each session. The time on the bus is some of the most valuable ministry time we share with the kids. Among other things, we also have youth groups all over the city, ministering to more than 600 youth every week. We have five Sunday church services, as well as men's and women's support groups.

 

While all of this sounds incredible, maybe unbelievable, none of it could be done without your support. Please pray for Metro Ministries, for its staff and all of the programs we run. Pray for New York City, that God will have his protection and peace over it, and please pray for the kids. Most people don't think that New York City needs to be ministered to, but I assure you, these kids need God more than you think.
