Don’t Forget to Water - Carolyn Martens

This has been one of the hottest, driest and muggiest summers that I can remember.  With the dryness and lack of rain, lawns seem to be getting browner and browner.  This is not a normal sight in Chilliwack because we usually have ample rain to keep things green and fresh.  Some yards are slowly starting to die off from the lack of moisture.  Only plants that can withstand drought conditions are able to grow.  As I see some of these yards I wonder why people stop watering and caring for their yards.  Is it busyness or laziness – does it cost too much or are they just too tired?

Yet other yards continue to be green and lush.  Plants are flourishing and the lawn is beautiful and inviting.  People are spending time caring for and watering their yards.

Jesus said,
"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.  Does anyone believe in me? Then, just as Scripture says, streams of living water will flow from inside him."
John 7:37-38

I realized that in my own life there are times where I have forgotten to water.  I have become tired and spiritually dry.  Whether it is the busyness, laziness or fatigue, when I don’t take the time to spiritually water, I know that I am not living the life that God intended for me.

Jesus is our living water.  He alone can satisfy our thirsty souls - refreshing us, renewing us, empowering us, quenching our thirst and giving us life.  God has already provided the water we are longing for.  It’s up to us to stop and take time to drink.
