Death Couldn't Keep Jesus Down - Jim Gaetz

Easter is the story of Jesus, who not only died on a cross to forgive our sins, but three days later came back to life again.
Acts 2:24 “But God raised Him from the dead.  He set Him free from the suffering of death.  It wasn’t possible for death to keep its hold on Jesus.”

Jesus died a horrible death on the cross.  His dead body was placed in a tomb and a large rock was rolled in front of it and guarded to make sure that no one stole His body.  But on the third day after His death, God brought His body back to life.  It was impossible for death to hold Jesus down.  In the following weeks He was seen by hundreds of people at different times and in different locations.

The Bible goes on to explain that if we live in relationship with Jesus Christ, then the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us.

Romans 8:11 “The Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.  So the God who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your bodies, which are going to die.  He will do this by the power of His Spirit who lives in you.

That same mighty power of His Spirit that now lives in us will not allow physical death to be the end for us.  Even though we will all die a physical death, Christ promises that one day our bodies will be brought back to life again.

That same Holy Spirit not only gives us hope for the future but also gives us power to live today as well.  Easter gives us hope that no matter what problem we are facing in life right now, God is able to meet that need or give us strength to endure that situation.  That same incredible Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is living in you and is more than sufficient for your problem.

What’s the biggest problem you’ve got in your life right now?  Maybe a family problem.  Or maybe a financial problem or a physical problem or a spiritual problem.  No matter what it is, the good news Easter tells us is that there is hope and that God is able.  Easter also changes our attitude about death itself.  When we understand what Easter means, we begin to look at death from an entirely different perspective.

Because of what happened at Easter, Jesus is able to forgive you of every sin, give you the hope of heaven and eternal life and make a difference in your life today.
